We consider volunteering an opportunity because you cannot imagine how fulfilling it can be!  Most of our volunteers start out with the idea that they are providing a community service and indeed, they are!  However, very soon, our volunteers discover how good it feels to help shape the lives of our children.  At the Boys & Girls Club of Jackson there are many opportunities for community-minded organizations and individuals to improve the lives of children.  Below are some of the areas in which we seek assistance.

If you are interested in volunteering as an individual or an organization either:
1.  Pick up a Volunteer Application at one of our five Club sites.  Fill out the entire application and return to any Club site.

 After submitting your Volunteer Application:

1.  You will be contacted by the Club to set up an orientation.

2. At the orientation, be prepared to pay the $55.00 volunteer processing fee.

 3. Take and pass the drug test and background check.

6. Be placed at a site and start volunteering!

The Boys and Girls Club of Jackson, Tennessee is seeking an individual who is eager to make a difference for children in our community to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA Member.  VISTA stands for Volunteers In Service To America, and the VISTA Program is a lot like the PeaceCorps, but Members serve within the United States at a non-profit organization.  VISTA Members serve as full-time volunteers and focus on building capacity and infrastructure to make a lasting impact for the organization and the community.  Benefits of service include an annual living allowance of $11,106, health benefits, relocation allowance, and the choice between two different post-service awards: an education award of $5,645 or a cash stipend of $1,500.


Key Roles:

  • Develop a comprehensive and sustainable grants program, to include a database of available grants for mentoring and youth development, submission calendars, reporting requirements and deadlines, etc.;
  • Assist with securing new grant funding; have direct contact with community businesses, churches, and individuals to secure new volunteer mentors;
  • Promote mentor opportunities through BGC media outlets, website and through the networks of community partners;
  • Organize the volunteer management program in all necessary areas of infrastructure to ensure that volunteers are effectively placed to serve as mentors and help with special events as needed.
